2012 Raise the Roof: A Benefit for the Looking Out Foundation
September 8th, 2012
The 2012 sold-out Raise the Roof event held at the Triple Door in Seattle, WA raised a record $33,000.00 for Brandi Carlile’s Looking Out Foundation. With Seattle's own Marty Riemer at the helm, the event was light-hearted, energetic and full of fun.
Brandi’s opening remarks highlighted some of her favorite Causes of the Day - an initiative started during her most recent tour in an effort to draw attention to local organizations in each of the cities she performed in. She also showcased a number of organizations currently supported by The Looking Out Foundation, including: The If Project, Why Hunger and Looking Out Across America. Representatives from each of the causes spoke and presented compelling videos highlighting recent developments and projects. The raffle items this year included a "one-of-a-kind" bobblehead set of Brandi and The Twins, a custom magical birdhouse built by Phil, an autographed guitar and other amazing items.
Fans were treated to sets by three very talented showcase bands/artists, including: Jennifer Hopper, Kate Lynne Logan and The Flumps! After a Q&A with the band, fans were treated to a rousing 90-minute set featuring Brandi Carlile, The Twins and Josh Neumann. The set included songs spanning the band's career and featured Brandi's cover of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton as a part of a fan-voted cover tune contest that raised an additional $500 for the Looking Out Foundation. Capping the evening was an appearance by none other than Mike McCready, lead guitarist for Pearl Jam. He and Brandi performed the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" much to the crowd's delight.

As a direct result of the money raised by AgainToday.com and its members at the Raise the Roof: A Benefit for The Looking Out Foundation in September 2009, the following campaigns and causes were able to begin their efforts:
Fight the Fear Campaign is a community oriented violence prevention initiative. Their mission is to provide free self defense training and violence prevention education, for women in underserved and at-risk populations. Fight the Fear Campaign is based on the belief that self defense training should be easily accessible to everyone, because the skills and confidence that it builds are a proven deterrent to violence.
Fight the Fear Campaign classes provide training in basic self defense skills, including awareness, de-escalation, boundary setting, and fighting techniques, and access to resources for survivors of violence or abuse. Their goal in 2010 is to provide 35 classes at Seattle-area women’s shelters, senior centers, community centers, homeless centers, and other gathering places.
Born of the aftermath of one woman’s tragic death and another’s courageous survival, this initiative is an effort to turn a senseless, violent act into a positive agent of growth and change.
Fighting fear, preventing violence, helping women live with strength and confidence.
AgainToday.com will continue to support these campaigns and we challenge you to provide support, as well. You may donate your time, energy, resources and money to these groups via the links above.
We are looking forward to hosting another benefit for The Looking Out Foundation in Fall 2010. Stay tuned for details!
